We have been waiting a long time to get this off our chests, so here goes: Remember this?

Seems like it was like 1,000 years ago doesn’t it?  Now look where you are.  You losers.  You are 24 games out of first-place.  You are 18 games under .500.  You are fighting off the Kansas City Mother-Fucking Royals to stay out of last place in the division.  You are in the conversation for worst team in baseball.  You have a worse record than the Washington Nationals, who were thought of by many to be one of the worst teams in Major League history.

All but two National League teams have scored more runs than you.  Are you fucking kidding?  How is that even possible? 14 of the 16 teams in the league where the goddam pitcher bats have scored more runs than you?  You have Jim Thome and his 500+ home runs as your DH, they have pitchers, most of whom couldn’t hit water if they fell out of a fucking boat, and almost 90% of them scored more runs than you.

Arizona and their .735 team OPS and Tony Fucking Clark batting cleanup has managed to score more runs than you?  Arizona hasn’t even outscored their own opponents this year, and they have outscored you.

San Diego and their .250 team batting average and 55 stolen bases AS A TEAM, have scored nearly 4o more runs this year than you.

You didn’t think that Cleveland fans would forget that did you? It has been such a pleasure watching you suck all year.  It has made the MLB package so worth it.  Watching your horrible homer broadcasters complain and make excuses while you continue to suck. Watching your asshole players lose and asshole fans in the stands.  Its been fan-fucking-tastic.

You can put THAT on the board.  Yes!

May We Help You?

Posted by wct6 on September 28, 2007

Yes?  What are you here for?  Oh I get it.  You came for the gratuitous semi-nudity didn’t you?  DIDN’T YOU??  Do you have any idea how hard it is to come up with a reason to post a picture of a almost-naked woman and have it somehow relate to sports each week?  Its tough man!  Real tough.

You try it.  Just try it for two weeks.  I dare you.  You read a story about Jenn Sterger on Monday?  Sorry!  Too early in the week.  News breaks on Erin Andrews on Sunday?  Tough shit!  You missed your window.

So some weeks, Friday comes and you got nothing.  Nada.  Especially during the fall, when people are so concerned about actual, you know, sports occuring on the field, and not sideline reporters, or flashers in the stands or groupies or anything like that.

Oh well, you don’t care.  You don’t even bother to click over to Epic Carnival to check out our weekly football preview.  You know real sports analysis.  Anyone can post spank-worthy pics of women.  That preview is choc-full of snark, man.  You just can’t get that kind of sarcasm and dick-ishness anywhere.  But do you care? Of course not.

Fine.  You know what? You win.  Here is a picture of a USC cheerleader showing us the Trojans ability to “spread” the field.

Her, you care about.  The actual team and their battle with Washington this Saturday? Not so much.  Whatever.

Our EC Blog Poll Ballot – Week 5

Posted by wct6 on September 25, 2007

As you may or may not know by now, we have a blog poll over at Epic Carnival that comes out every week.  Before you check out the complete rankings according to the carnies, check out our ballot and comments:

1. LSU – Circle your calendars folks, October 6th the Gators come calling.  And WE WILL BE THERE!!!

2. USC – *yawn* When do they play Cal again?

3. Florida – Last week we said “we’re believers now” after this past week, we don’t know what to believe anymore

4. Oklahoma – *yawn* When do they play Texas again?

5. Cal – Game of the week: Bears travel to Eugene to take on Oregon to see who is the 2nd best team in the Pac-10.  Should be a good one.

6. Wisconsin – We flip-flopped ‘sconsin and Cal after another disappointingly close win over an inferior team

7. Ohio State – The Buckeye D has allowed one meaningful touchdown in four games.

8. West Virginia – In 2000, if we told you that West Virginia vs. South Florida was one of the biggest games of the season, what would you have said to us?

9. Texas – Granted, they are the second best team in the Big 12, but right now, the gap between them and Oklahoma is like the Grand Canyon.

10. Rutgers – They haven’t given us a reason to move them up or down in weeks

11. Oregon – We haven’t been this excited for a Pac-10 game in a while.

12. Boston College – The GTech win looks less impressive now.  BC’s schedule gets real easy for the next few weeks.

13. Kentucky – You have no idea how happy it makes us to keep moving them up in our ballot.

14. Clemson – We guess we have to include them now.  We’re just waiting for the other shoe to drop on this team.

15. South Florida – We will get a better idea of how good this team really is this Friday

up in the SEC championship game

16. Georgia – Nice win at ‘bama

17. South Carolina – A really good showing in defeat vs. LSU.  This team will be heard from again this year

18. Virginia Tech – We have no idea what to make of this team

19. Alabama – We can’t really kill them for that tough OT loss to UGA

20. Arizona St. – A new entry to the poll on our ballot.  In a 4 week stretch starting next month they play Cal, Oregon, UCLA, and USC in a row.  We’ll learn about this team then.

21. Purdue – Granted, they haven’t played anybody, but every one if their wins has been an blowout

* * * * *

Dropped Out:

Penn State – 9 goddam points against Michigan? What a fraud they turned out to be.

* * * * *

Others Receiving Consideration:

Michigan State – Probably the next team in if they impress and someone else loses.

Cincinnati – Suddenly, the Big East is looking like the third or fourth best BCS conference.

Missouri – Right now, they look like they are headed to the Big 12 Championship Game.

Definitely Not Receiving Any Consideration, Especially Not After Beating Some Hapless I-AA School In The Middle Of The Night By 56 Points, With Their Backup QB – Hawaii

Should the Tribe have the Top Two Finishers in the Cy Young Voting?

Posted by wct6 on September 25, 2007

A friend of ours says that you always either overrate (because of blind homerism) or underrate (because you look for faults) your favorite team.  As you could probably tell this year, from our constant Sizemore-bashing, we would probably fall into the second category.  So it is no surprise that it took until Septetember 25th for this to occur to us:

Should Carsten Charles and Fausto finish 1-2 (not neccessarily in that order) in the Cy Young balloting?  Check this out

Wins – Both have 18, tied for 2nd in the AL

ERA – Carmona 3.03, 1st in the AL; Sabathia 3.19, 6th in the AL

Quality Starts – Carmona 25, 2nd; Sabathia 24, 3rd

IP – Sabathia 234, 1st; Carmona 208 11th

Just sayin’…

Last Week in Baseball! – This is Why it Sucks to Be a Cleveland Sports Fan

Posted by wct6 on September 23, 2007

If you are like us, you grew up loving “This Week in Baseball” and Mel Allen.  Here at WCT, we have “Last Week in Baseball!”  Please don’t sue us FOX!

I should be enjoying this.  I should.  But I’m not.  Because I grew up with “the Drive,” and “the Fumble,”  and the Cooper years at Ohio State, and the Jordan shot over Ehlo, and Tom Glavine’s 1-hitter in game 6 of the ’95 World Series, and the blown save in game 7 of the ’97 World Series, and the Steelers comeback in the ’03 playoffs, I couldn’t enjoy it.  I immediately got nervous.  The second that Mark Ellis swung and missed for the final out of the game, questions began swirling around in my head.

Was it good to clinch with a week left in the season?

The Indians have been so hot down the stretch, how will they respond with effectively a week off, then playoff games?

Are they complacent with the division title?

Who should we hope they face in the first round?

What if they play the Yankees who are equally as hot and 6-0 against the Tribe this year?

What if they play the Red Sox who have two World Series MVP pitchers and are 5-2 against the Tribe this year?

I should be enjoying this, but I can’t

And now, on to the LWIB notes!

 – Around this time every season, the question every analyst asks is “who is the team nobody wants to face?”  We don’t know the answer to that question, but we sure as hell know who everybody does want to face: The Boston Red Sox.  Without Manny Ramirez in the middle of their line-up they are a mediocre team offensively.  And if you were a Sox fan, would you be comfortable turning a big game over to bullpen?

 – The Diamondbacks now have the best record in the entire National League.  The Diamondbacks.  As of right now it looks like the the three division winners in the NL will be an Arizona team that has been outscored this year and have a cleanup hitter with 5o runs batted in, a Cubs team with Jason Marquis and Ted Lilly as their #2 and #3 starters, and a Mets team that is stubling down the stretch and will start Tom Glavine (41 years old), Orlando Hernandez (he claims he’s 41), and Pedro Martinez (35 going on 50).  How can an entire league be this bad?

* * * * *

Its our blog dammit, so we are going to talk about our favorite team every week –

We have never been happier to be wrong about anything in our lives.  We were so wrong about this team.  We killed Jake Westbrook, and said he would be one of the main reason the Indians wouldn’t make the playoffs.  As it turns out, he became a different pitcher down the stretch, and actually pitched the clinching game to put them into  the playoffs.

Now lets see how they respond.  Should be fun.  And by “fun,” we mean utterly nerve-racking.

Our EC Blog Poll Ballot – Week 4

Posted by wct6 on September 20, 2007

As you may or may not know by now, we have a blog poll over at Epic Carnival that comes out every week.  Before you check out the complete rankings according to the carnies, check out our ballot and comments:

1. LSU – Still have the most impressive win of the top 5 teams

2. USC – Now we will see if the Pac-10 is as tough as everyone says it is

3. Florida – I’m a believer now

4. Oklahoma – So far, the Sooners are under the radar, but they could be the best team in America

5. Wisconsin – I still think they are the best team in the Big Ten

6. Cal – The tougher game is next week vs. Oregon, but the better not look past ‘zona

7. West Virginia – That pathetic defense they have will be their downfall at some point this year

8. Texas – So overrated, yet still undefeated.  I’m just waiting for a reason to drop them

9. Ohio State – Finally, they gave me a reason to include them in the top 10

10. Rutgers – Still under the radar.  They will get more exposure when the crush Maryland next week

11. Penn State – Blowing out the dregs of D-1 is one thing, beating a suddenly-confident Michigan team in Ann Arbor will be tougher

12. Oregon – If they beat Cal next week, I’ll find a way to include them in the top 10

13. Boston College – Welcome to the poll BC.  I don’t see you staying here long

14. Alabama – They just keep movin’ up

15. South Carolina – Don’t laugh, if this team could beat Florida in November they could wind up in the SEC championship game

16. Texas A&M – Franchione is going to blow it eventually, I just know it

17. South Florida – Suddenly the USF-WVU game next week looms pretty large

18. Kentucky – I finally got one right!

19. Georgia – Their contest against ‘bama Saturday is the game of the week

20. Louisville – I’m going to call them the Carinals, because they have absolutely no “D”

21. Virginia Tech – They can’t be as bad as they looked in Baton Rouge a couple weeks ago

Dropped Out:

Washington – They will be heard from again this year

Georgia Tech – What happend to them against BC?

Nebraska – Who didn’t see that coming a mile away?

Tennessee – They have to be better than they were on Saturday, right?

UCLA – Wow.  Thats all I can say

Others Receiving Consideration:
Michigan State – Under the radar, but very good so far

Cincinnati – Yes, Cincinnati

STILL Not Receiving any Consideration: Hawaii

Fat Lady, You Might Want to Start Warming Up

Posted by wct6 on September 18, 2007

Its not over yet, but if you are a fan of the Detroit Tigers, it looks really, really bad.  We said earlier on the week that the big series between the Tribe and the Tigers could decide if the Tigers would vault back in the race, or be buried completely.  After taking the first two in the series, the Indians give the ball (and a shovel) to Carsten Charles with a chance for a sweep.

By the way, we believe we were the first ones to predict the classic Red Sox choke job that is currently taking place in the East.  We realize that it does not exactly take Nostradamus to predict a Boston choke, but we were the first to make that prediction this year, so we’re taking credit.

Last Week in Baseball! – Two Weeks to Go!

Posted by wct6 on September 17, 2007

If you are like us, you grew up loving “This Week in Baseball” and Mel Allen.  Here at WCT, we have “Last Week in Baseball!”  Please don’t sue us FOX!

Two weeks left!  We are officially coming “down the stretch” in the six month race that is the baseball season, and we still have some interesting races that shouldn’t be decided untill the final weeks

 – The Red Sox are still trying their best to give the AL East back to the Yankees.  Did you catch that game Friday night?  Holy hell.  How in the world to you choke away a six run lead in the eight inning?  If the Sox make the playoffs, there is no way they make it out of the first round.

 – Last point on the Red Sox: How overrated is John Papelbon?  The Yankees beat him around like a rag-doll

 – It seems like the Seattle Mariners haven’t won a game in ages.  Now I see why Mike Hargrove left this sinking ship.

 – Speaking of sinking, the Mets, who have been winning with smoke and mirrors all season, are struggling to hold off the Phillies, who have now beaten New York seven striaght times.  The lead in the division is down to 3.5 games.

 – Does anyone want to win the NL Central?

 – How in the world are the Diamondbacks still leading the NL West? Honestly, they have still been outscored by a sizable margin this year, and they still have no power in their lineup.

* * * * *

Its our blog dammit, so we are going to talk about our favorite team every week –Needless to say, this week’s series against the Tigers is huge.  The Indians will either let them back in the division race, or bury them completely.  The Indians have been playing well, but so have the Tigers, winners of five in a row.  Its time to see what they are made of.  Game on.

T.W.I.S.- This Week In Sterj

Posted by wct6 on September 13, 2007

It has been quite a week for now-former Sports Illustrated “reporter” and, overrated, perpetually semi-nude celebrity Jenn Sterger.  First, word came out that she was relieved of her duties at SI. Incidentally, what do you think the reason was?  Our guess is creative differences.  Anyway, Ms. Sterger did not take this dismissal (we don’t know that she was fired.  But come on.) lying down.  Within the week she was hired to join the staff of something called “NFL Gridiron Gab,”  where she will bring her unique talent for…whatever, to the website that is said to provide “NFL football news, NFL game predictions, player tidbits and objective commentary.”  By the way, when you think of NFL football news and objective commentary, what image pops into your head?

Exactly.  Do you think Peter King is jealous?

The funniest thing is that in the press release announcing her hiring, they mention that she was previously known simply as the “FSU Cowgirl,” and they mentioned the genesis of her now interminable 15 minutes of fame, the boob shot of her in the FSU-Miami game from a few weeks back.  So that if you are a marginally intelligent frat boy who has know earthly idea who “Jen Sterger” is, the release jogs your memory by effectively saying “dude, remember the broad with the fake tits and cowboy hat from that football game?

 Dude, this is her man!”

We here at WCT wish the Sterj, as she was known on OBoS, nothing but the best of luck in this endeavor.  And if her writing at NFL GG is anything like it was at SI, it will provide ample fodder for us and every other blogger who is so sick of seeing this chick we can’t even convey it to you.

Peace-out bloggers, check us out over at Epic Carnival for your college football pleasure
